Weltenwandern – a music-theater collage about bird migration

Migratory birds embark on true odysseys as they cross continents. They travel thousands of kilometres in breathtaking formations, braving storms, climbing mountains and enduring exhaustion. But how do they navigate with such precision? How do they know which route to take? These questions serve as the starting point for a one-hour musical theatre collage that explores a fascinating annual phenomenon: bird migration.

The ensemble DieOrdnungDerDinge traces the flight paths of countless migratory birds across the sky and explores the skills required to travel over land, water and air to reach distant lands.

In Weltenwandern, the three performers follow in the footsteps of cranes, nightingales, geese and cuckoos, picking up the sounds of chirping and cawing, pausing with the birds on their incredible journeys and reflecting on the migratory patterns of their own families. Along the way, they discover the birds’ sixth sense, marvel at their anatomy and draw inspiration from their mastery of the skies. The result is a composition of baroque and contemporary bird songs, images and stories – a meditation on the eternal act of migration that seems to bind humans and birds together.
